Mumbai - Nothing Can Be Lost If You Can Find It

Mumbai, city of Dreams, Drama, Desipan, Videsipan, Terror attacks, Food, Life, Never say Die attitude, Economy. Well, too many adjectives to describe my hometown Mumbai- which is a perfect example of Unity in Diversity and more promptly Unity in ADVERSITY. If you are in Mumbai, you can never be alone in a problem, either you will be a cause or you will have a cause. So, I guess background for the REAL story is set and now directly coming to the point what I am going to write is about how a foreigner Trusted the Indians when she was in a problem, the REAL story goes here....

It was 1st of some month, I don't remember exactly may be August or September 2011. Since it was 1st of the month and on every 1st you get a huge huge discount on Ice Creams at "Gelato Italiano" so me with a couple of friends decided to visit the store at Charni Road-Mumbai near Girgaum Chowpatty. After enjoying the Ice-creams we crossed roads to do some "Mazak-Masti" on the beach and saw a lady who was a foreigner plying with Pandu Hawaldar who was half Talli and soon we realized that the lady with two daughter's was in some mess.

We reached out to her and tried to understand her problem, she narrated, "I hired a taxi from Churchgate, I had my train from Bandra Terminus in evening so asked the Taxi driver to take us on a drive. The Taxi Driver asked us to get down here and said to come back in 30 mins and asked us to explore the beach. Now when we have returned he is missing, his cell is switched off. All our luggage, passport, money was in the taxi and this Cop is not understanding what I am trying to convey him and asked us to help her". So looking at her elder daughter :p , just kidding we all really decided to help her out.

We approached the Police station and tried to explain them the entire situation, but the cops where in post lunch mood as usual but were at least keen to listen. One of the cop to the lady "Mam, actually its your fault, how can you trust an unknown person in an unknown country. We will try to help you but its majorly your fault". We were like, how can the cops talk to a lady who is in a mess like this and in midst of all these comes an awesome (actually I have no word to describe the feeling) reply, she said, "Its been 10 days today, that I have been in such a lovely country INDIA, I never thought that anything like this can ever happen to me where everyone treated us so gracefully, humbly and with so respect. I never felt I was away from my dear ones and such a thing I had never imagined. I trusted everyone over here and I still have a gut feeling that I might get my luggage and other things back. I don't have any reason for the feeling but I feel I will get my things back. What I need is a little help from you Sir."

Well, this words from the lady were enough for us and the cops to start the search operation. Now, it was almost 5 mins that our search had begun, cops in their car and we on our legs and guess what we heard a voice "Madamji, Madamji idhar idhar" from other side of the road and guess what it was the Taxi Driver himself calling the lady and the lady in no time guessed it was the same taxi driver that they had hired. The lady couldn't control her emotions and in tears of happiness said, "I trusted INDIA and INDIANS and here comes the bloody Taxi Driver".

Actually the driver had parked his cab at some other place since it was No-Parking area in front of the beach. Lady also confirmed that nothing was missing and all her luggage, passport and money everything was as it is. Hats off to the Indian-ness in the Mumbaikar and what he did was "Atithi Devo Bhava". So, here I conclude the REAL story with the title again "Mumbai - Nothing Can Be Lost If You Can Find It"

  7. Dear Friends,
We have lost an important medical file of my Uncle's Cancer Treatment in Taxi near Dadar (West). My Aunt missed her purse in Taxi containing Medical File, and some other stuff like Reshan Card, Aadhar Card and little money. The important thing was file having all reports, diagnosis from different doctors and treatment. Its file having papers from last 5 years. Is there a way / contact number we can reach out to someone and try for getting atleast medical file?

Please let me know if we have any hopes asap.

    Thanks.
    Sarang
