Book Review : Umbilical Cord - Meena R Chandawarkar & Santosh Avvannavar

Umbilical cord, as we all know is the connection between two bodies, mind and their souls. This connection, which is meant to imbibe various attributes between the two humans involved is not only restricted to that but also nurtures and develops an invisible relation. These relations are all about associating the two distinct yet identical sources together from birth to death.

Umbilical Cord is a book with forty very small stories, talking about the connection between humans and the society, the belongings and responsibilities. The stories in this book revolve around various emotions ranging from love to comparison and forgiveness to blessings. Now if you were wondering how does the Umbilical Cord fit in all these then it is used as a metaphor and is a symbolic representation of social life, relationships and the society at large. The forty stories are intertwined with human emotions, you can call them the cord, and aim at creating social awareness and will make you question your approach and attitude towards the society and yourself. Other than the above mentioned emotions, the stories are about life, gender, money, work, winning, Bollywood, etc...

Book Review  Umbilical Cord - Meena R Chandawarkar & Santosh Avvannavar
The tagline of the Umbilical Cord is "A cord that remains, always, in many ways..." and is authored by Meena R Chandawarkar and Santosh Avvannavar. The stories in the book are about the perceptions that we create about ourselves, thanks to the society, and then fall prey to them. These stories make a conscious attempt at creating an informed society about the causes without sounding preachy as they get molded into various stories. Though the book has stories that mostly everyone can related to but I don't think that everyone would want to read the book because of the topics it talks about and especially those who like to read long stories. If you are someone who reads about the society, bringing change or if you are a storyteller to kids then you will like it.

Another thing that I liked about the book is the cover design, illustrations which are very apt for the stories that the book contains. You can order a copy of this book from Amazon
