-- Interview with author Shilpi Chaklanobis --

Q: “Panorama” made you a published author, how does it feel holding the book?
A: It feels absolutely amazing to hold a book with your name as the author. After all it is your creation and it’s great to hold your creation in your hands.

Q: Tell us about the support you received from your family and friends while you writing the book?
A: My family had been very supportive during the whole process. It is them who inspired me to write this book and get published. I still remember the day when I received the author copies and after a couple of moments found everyone around me holding a copy of PANORAMA and totally engrossed in it. Loved the moment. Very heart warming.

Q: Can you tell us something about your experience of getting the book published? Is it difficult for debut authors to see acceptance to their work?
A: Yes, I feel it is more difficult for debut authors to get acceptance because their name is not known to the readers. A debut author neither has a fan following nor any past work to showcase. So it takes some time for them to reach the readers.

Q: “Panorama”, is a collection of 15 short stories, why did you choose “Panorama” as the book title when none of the story is?
A: The book is a collection of stories depicting various aspects of human relationships with a panoramic view of the events that often take place in the society. Precisely this is why I chose the title of the book as “Panorama” because it conveys the essence of the whole book instead of focusing on a single story.

Q: Apart from “Panorama”, have you written anything popular?
A: No, this is my first publication.

Q: What can we expect from you in the near future? Any other book lined up?
A: Currently I am working on two novels and both of them are love stories. They are not romantic novels but deal with the complexities of love and how it can change lives for better and for worse.

Q: When did you decide that you wanted to be a writer? Or you think that you were destined to become one?
A: It all started with a blog and my love for books. Initially I wrote only for my blog and shared my views on various topics. Eventually, the idea of writing a book cropped because there was so much that I wanted to share with the world and it was possible only through a book.

Q: The short stories in your book, are all about observations. What made you write these and share with everyone?
A: There are so many things happening around us which go unnoticed. I have always been fascinated by such moments of life that can be enjoyed to live life to the fullest and this is what motivated me to pen down such moments into stories and share with everyone.

Q: Tell us about, how writing is a part of your daily life?
A: I try to devote at least two hours daily to writing. I usually write in night after getting back home from work. On weekends it may get extended up to 6 to 7 hours.

Q: How did you finalize the cover of the book? Did you have more options?
A: Yes, I had few more options but I felt this one went perfectly with the title of the book. Since the book has a generic title, I did not want to focus on a single story. The current cover features a panoramic view of the setting sun with a shadowy tinge cloaking the whole scenery which conceals the golden radiance of the setting sun. The cover generates curiosity with the title of the book inscribed in bold fonts through slits cut into the shadowy plane and also stands out with its bold colours and large fonts even as a thumbnail.

Q: Other than writing, what else do you do professionally?
A: I am a digital marketer by profession and am currently heading the digital marketing division of a multinational company in Delhi.

Q: Your book, “Panorama” is completely fiction? How much of it is real or inspired?
A: Many of the stories are inspired by real life. I have added a bit of fiction to mould them into stories like Wok, The Wait, Peanut, Destiny and The Untimely Death.

Q: Do you read as much as you write? Which are your favorite books and authors?
A: Yes, I am a voracious reader and devour books by the dozen. The list of my favourite authors is very long but to name a few Jane Austen, O Henry, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Rabindranath Tagore and Shivani are my all time favourites.

Q: You prefer reading e-books or the traditional paper/hard back book?
A: Hard copies, any time.

Q: Two things that you like and dislike about “Life”?
A: The thing I like most about life is that it is a mystery that unfolds slowly as you progress through the journey. What I do not like? The pain, the agony and huge disparity that prevails among the people of society.

Q: If you have to give one reason to our readers to get hold of your book, “Panorama”, what would the reason be?
A: If you love life, you must read PANORAMA.

Q: Any message you would want to share with our readers?
A: Keep reading my books. It is the only motivation that keeps a writer going.

Q: How can our readers connect with you?
A: They can reach me via email at shilpic100@gmail.com and on Facebook.
